For the Bread
- 3 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 Tablespoon baking powder
- 1 teaspoons table salt
- ¼ cup granulated sugar
- 1 bottle (12 ounces) beer I prefer lager or Oktoberfest
- ¼ cup butter, melted
For the Garlic Butter
- 2 Tablespoons butter, melted
- ½ teaspoon garlic powder** (see notes)
- pinch salt (optional)
Preheat oven to 350°F.Spray a 9x5-inch loaf pan with baking spray and set aside.Optional: You also line the loaf pan with parchment paper for easy removal of the loaf. In a large mixing bowl, combine flour, baking powder, sugar and salt.
Slowly pour in the bottle of beer and stir until just combined - do not overmix.
Pour the bread batter into the prepared loaf pan. Top with melted butter by pouring it evenly on top of the batter.
Bake for 45-55 minutes, until a toothpick or knife inserted into the center of the loaf comes out clean. Remove loaf from the oven.
In a small mixing bowl or ramekin, combine 2 Tablespoons melted butter with ½ teaspoon of garlic powder. Spread garlic butter mixture over the loaf using a pastry brush, or drizzle evenly over the top of the loaf with a spoon.Sprinkle with a pinch of salt, if desired. Once the loaf has cooled for about 10 minutes, remove the loaf from the pan and cool completely on a wire rack.
Beer Bread with keep for 3-4 days in an airtight container or zip-top bag at room temperature.
**I've noticed the garlic powder I use is pretty potent, and garlic powders will vary some by age and brand. If you need to add a little more, go for it!
